Aaron Greven just sent me this link for PostGreen Homes. I find the concept of the customizable, Amazon-like interface for designing and pricing a home system very intriguing, and many of the concepts parallel my thesis. Once I tinkered with the interface I immediately tried to find the source behind this. I was somewhat disappointed to find that they are a development company founded by a manufacturing engineer. My disappointment came because I was really hoping that they were an architecture firm of some sort. Although I appreciate their designs, intent, environmental responsibility; I was really hoping to see such a system come from some innovative architects. Regardless, maybe the design community can learn from this idea and deliver browsable, customizable design systems through web interfaces. With this idea clients can browse your different design systems for free, and you don’t need to take them out to dinner until they decide to buy one.
